About This Site

Top Hunting Rifle Scopes publishes hands-on reviews, side-by-side comparisons and practical how-to guides on the optics a working hunter actually carries: hunting riflescopes for deer and elk, laser rangefinders, hunting binoculars, and the rings that hold a scope on the rifle. Every piece is written for public-land hunters who sight in at a gravel pit, hunt timber and cuts at sensible ranges, and want glass that holds zero without costing a paycheck.

Firearm and Optics Safety

Treat every firearm as loaded. Never use a riflescope as a substitute for binoculars or a spotting scope: glassing with a scope means pointing a rifle at whatever you are looking at, including other hunters. Identify your target and what is beyond it before you ever put a finger on the trigger.

Mount and adjust optics only on an unloaded rifle with the action open, and confirm it is clear before every adjustment. Torque scope rings and bases to the manufacturer's specification with a proper torque driver; over-tightening can crush a scope tube and under-tightening lets the scope shift under recoil. Give yourself full eye relief so recoil cannot drive the eyepiece into your brow.

Never look at the sun through a scope, binoculars or rangefinder, which can cause permanent eye damage. A laser rangefinder reading is a guide, not a guarantee: rain, brush and angled shots all affect it. Know your own effective range, follow your state's hunting regulations and hunter education rules, and take only ethical, high-percentage shots. Nothing on this site replaces formal hunter safety training or the instructions that come with your rifle and optics.
